When I’m making a decision on behalf of a particular client, I often picture that client’s face and really think about what is in their very best interest. We really care about our clients. We feel their pain when there is pain, and we’re elated when we see them achieve their goals.

Joe Teurlings was born in the Netherlands and lived there for the first 30 years of his life. After college, he worked for 11 years as a management consultant, engagement manager, business case analyst and vice president for Cap Gemini, a global management consulting firm. Through that experience, he worked in many countries and gained valuable insight into how large companies work and how their executives think. In addition to English, Joe is fluent in Dutch, German and French.

After marrying his wife, who is from Westlake Village, Joe transferred to the United States in 1998. As time passed, he grew weary of the frequent travel required for his job and became more interested in the idea of helping individuals reach their financial goals.  Joe made the decision to change his career focus to wealth management.

As his experience grew through his work with two top-tier, global wealth management companies, he increased his value to his clients and employers by completing the rigorous requirements to earn four of the most prestigious designations in the financial services industry: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a designation only a small percentage of financial services professionals attain; Certified Financial Planner (CFP); Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA), a certification he received from the Wharton Business School; and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).

As a result of his diligence and hard work, Joe rose through the ranks of his wealth management firms from an entry level position to Senior Vice President before becoming an independent wealth management professional.

Education:

  • Master’s degree (M. Sc.) in industrial engineering and business administration
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA): A professional designation given by the CFA Institute that measures the competence and integrity of financial analysts. Candidates are required to pass three levels of exams covering areas such as accounting, economics, ethics, money management and security analysis. Before you can become a CFA charterholder, you must have four years of investment/financial career experience. To enroll in the program, you must hold a bachelor’s degree. The CFA charter is one of the most respected designations in finance, considered by many to be the gold standard in the field of investment analysis.
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP): The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation is a professional certification mark for financial planners conferred by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board).
  • Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA): This designation focuses on asset allocation, ethics, due diligence, risk measurement, investment policy and performance measurement. Only individuals who are investment consultants with at least three years of professional experience are eligible to try to obtain this certification, which signifies a high level of consulting expertise.
  • Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC): A certification that covers financial planning, insurance, taxes, retirement and a wide range of other topics. The ChFC designation requires the most extensive education among all financial services credentials, including nine or more college-level courses on financial planning.
